OF GREATER CLEVELAND

This space has been donated to the Center by the Chronicle, and does not necessarily reflect the views of the Chronicle staff or management. by Aubrey Wertheim

Makeover Central: A major renovation effort is now underway in two of the Center's three storefronts. The final new look will include an expanded Resource Center, Hotline station and staff offices. The Renovation Fund Drive (to purchase materials, pay for permits, etc.-all labor is donated) is still $1,800 short of its goal, so all gifts to this effort would be received with great cries of gratitude accompanied by a chorus of power tools.

Room at the Top: On occasion we do recruit. Especially when it comes to the Center's board of trustees. New nominees are currently being sought to bring us to a full board of seventeen. Primary duties are fundraising and policy making. People of color and within the HIV spectrum are especially encouraged to apply. Just call us during business hours and your name will be routed to the nominating committee.

N'Arleans, Y'all: Representatives from the Center, HIT, Beebe/Dunkle Associates and Veterans Hospital provided the National Lesbian-Gay Health Conference in New Orleans with an impressive showing from Cleveland. The July 25-28 conference provided an undaunting array of workshops, plenaries and forums plus such movement luminaries as Urvashi Vaid, Joann Loulan, Tim McFeeley and Rev. Troy Perry. The paddleboat cruise down the Mississippi with full moon, jazz band and some 400 conference participants was especially memorable.

The conference workbook and tape order form are available at the Center-just give a call. The '92 conference will be held in Los Angeles.

Speaking of Younguns: Registration forms are now available for the "Invisible Minority" conference on meeting the needs of gay-lesbian-bisexual youth. A cooperative effort by the Center. the Cuyahoga County Mental Health Board and the West Side Community Mental Health Center, the program will be held October 11 at the Cleveland Clinic. Con-

tinuing education credits will be available. Call us if you'd like a registration form sent to you.

Touchy, Touchy! The next two rounds of Men in Touch are coming up fast and furious Sept. 10 and Oct. 29. These highly popular gay and bisexual men's discussion groups go for five weeks, and over 2,000 graduates nationwide can attest to the program's helpfulness. The first session is an open forum in which you can check out what MIT has to offer.

Voices To Venerate: Congratulations to board member Dolores Noll, Western Reserve Historical Society staffer John Grabowski and their all-star panel for their tremendous membership meeting July 30. The community got a thorough introduction to the lesbian and gay archives being established at the Society, as well as a spirited and touching recollection of coming out in the '40's and '50's.

Commence Conversing: The Friday Night Rap Group needs a few good facilitators to co-lead a lively discussion group once or twice a month. Are you good at keeping a conversation ball rolling?

chance to live. I lost a dear friend, a true friend to me and to the gay community. In spirit, I know he's here with me tonight."

And Scott Gunkle of the Lambda Rights Network said, "These victims, most of whom were black gay men, were loving, caring individuals who touched some of us

in our daily lives and have become representative of a system that has failed us all."

"Do not forget the anger," said Gunkel. "Do not forget the rage. Use it to keep yourself involved. Use it to keep the powerful in check. Use it to never forget what happened and, most of all, use it to remember the victims."
